Heated
More intense blue
When extracted, rough tanzanite is not necessarily blue: it may be yellow, green, brownish, grayish, violet, dark brown or almost black. Heating is a common practice used to remove brownish tones and reveal or stabilize blue and blue-violet tones. These stones are often sought after for their vivid color, clarity of appearance and jewelry-ready presence.

Natural and rare
