Heated
When extracted, rough tanzanite is not necessarily blue: it may be yellow, green, brownish, grayish, violet, blue-violet, very dark brown or almost black. Heating is a common practice that reveals or intensifies the blue and blue-violet tones many buyers seek.
Unheated
An unheated tanzanite preserves its natural expression. It can show more complex nuances: yellow, green, brown, violet, gray, dark brown, almost black or changing tones depending on the light.
